Often, people encounter concrete floors in places that aren't well-insulated and with few, if any, windows, and so of course the concrete feels cold. The fact is concrete floors, or any flooring for that matter, will be cold if the room is cold.

However, concrete floors have high thermal mass and when used properly, can make a home more comfortable by absorbing excess heat during the day and releasing the heat slowly as the air cools in the evening.

This process smooths out extreme temperature shifts, leading to a more stable and comfortable indoor climate. It can even lower reliance on HVAC systems, as used in passive homes and lower utility bills.

Our personal experience is there is nothing more luxurious than walking on concrete floors that have absorbed heat from the sun or radiant heat from the wood stove. And with well placed rugs and proper insulation, life with concrete floors is very enjoyable.
